The learning objectives of this course are listed below.
-Integrate advances in the art and science of fracture repair into veterinary medicine, particularly as it pertains to craniomaxillofacial trauma and reconstruction in small animals
-Apply new techniques and innovative concepts in maxillofacial fracture fixation to complicated cases in small animal surgical practice
-Discuss complications associated with maxillofacial trauma and repair the implications for small animals, particularly canines
-Explain indications for internal fixation and the selection criteria for implant hardware
-Discuss the mechanisms of maxillofacial growth and development and the possible consequences of various fixation techniques
-Explain the benefits and limitations of conservative fracture management using techniques relying on bonding teeth and restoring occlusion
These learning objectives are met by a combination of lecture, wet lab and small group or panel discussions. The wet labs and panel discussions are team taught with interaction and input from all course faculty. The lectures are delivered by assigned individual faculty members with frequent input from other course faculty.
This course is limited to 40 participants. There will be approximately a 1:6 instructor to participant ratio.
Participants may wish to bring loupes and headlamps.
