This course is designed to provide 16 hours of AVDC approved surgery speciality hours for veterinary dental residents and veterinarians interested in advancing thier oral surgery skills. Participants will learn and practice advanced oral surgery skills such as fracture repair techniques, glossectomies, palatal repair, maxilectomies and mandibulectomies.  

 

April 29, 2023 1st Day   

8:00AM-9:00AM – Lecture: Recognition and Treatment Planning for Jaw Fractures 

9:00AM-12Noon – Lab: Participants Perform Placement of Circumferential Wiring, Interdental Wiring, Figure-of-Eight Wiring, Interdental Splint Placement, Placement of Intra-osseous Wires 

12:00Noon-1:00PM Lunch 

1:00PM-2:00PM – Lecture: Surgical Management of Unusual Oral Lesions 

2:00PM-5:00PM: Participants Perform Various Oral Biopsy Techniques, Partial Glossectomies including Ligation of Salivary Ducts During Performance of Radical Glossectomies, and Mandibular, Sublingual and Zygomatic Salivary Gland Removal for Treatment of Salivary Mucoceles

 

April 30, 2023 2nd Day 

8:00AM-9:00AM – Lecture: Recognition and Treatment of Congenital and Acquired Palatal Defects and Treatment of Lip Avulsions

9:00AM-12Noon – Participants Perform Surgical Repair of Simulated Congenital and Acquired Palatal Defects and Repair of Lip Avulsions   

12:00Noon- 1PM Lunch 

1:00PM-2:00PM – Lecture: Recognition and Surgical Treatment of Oral Tumors 

2:00-5:00PM – Lab: Participants Perform Rostral Mandibulectomy and Rostral Hemimaxillectomy
